Who can go on a rafting trip?
Rock

types of individuals. We welcome anyone, young or old! There is a
min. weight for children of 35 lbs to ride any raft, and a min.
weight of 50 lbs. to ride the rapids. Persons who are extremely
overweight or have a chest size over 52" (life jacket maximum size)
may not be able to participate in a Rock Gardens rafting trip.

When is the best time of season to go rafting?
The time of year you
chose to go rafting depends on the type of adventure you are looking
for. Our regular season runs from early April through the end of
September, however we can raft into November, weather permitting.
Early season with "spring run-off" finds the river running cold, yet
invigorating! Wetsuits are required. When the river peaks (usually
in June) parts of the river may be impossible to navigate. July
& August are the favorite months with wonderfully warm weather
and refreshing, very fun rapids! You may prefer trying mid week
trips for less crowds during this peak time of summer.

How do you rate the difficulty of the rapids?
- Class I: Gentle moving water.
- Class II: Faster moving water with moderate, "playful" waves.
- Class III: Faster, more difficult with irregular waves and obstacles to maneuver, requires skill.
- Class IV: Difficult rapids with narrower channels and more significant obstacles. Requires precise maneuvering.
- Class V: Very difficult. More turbulent, continuous rapids with many obstructions that require precise maneuvering through narrower riverbeds.
- Class VI: Unable to navigate.
Which raft trip is best for us?
Our river trips range from MILD to WILD. Mild trips (class I/II) are great for families with young children or those who want a more relaxing time on the river. Class II/III are perfect for those who are looking for more "action" and some "relaxation". Class III/IV trips are "wild" and more for the true adventure seekers. Our office staff are experts at matching people to the appropriate trip.return to top
How safe is it?
We do everything possible to ensure a safe and
enjoyable trip. Because of the nature of outdoor adventure
activities, we cannot guarantee your trip will be risk or injury
free. Before our activity begins, we provide you with a complete
safety orientation. Our guides receive extensive training on the
river to prepare them for emergencies, should they occur. They are
licensed by the state of Colorado, complete thorough training in
First Aid and CPR, most have more advanced training in swift water
rescue, and many of our guides are certified EMT's. In addition to
our highly trained staff, we provide you with the finest equipment
available. Participation on our trips is at your own risk. A signed
Assumption of Risk Agreement will be required prior to departure.
SAFETY IS OUR NUMBER ONE CONCERN!

What if I can't swim?
Not a problem! Our goal is to keep you in the
boat however rest assured you will be issued a type V Personal
Flotation Device (PFD). These life jackets are designed to keep your
head floating above the surface of the water even though you may not
be able to swim. In addition, we complete a thorough safety talk
prior to all trips to better prepare you in the event you find
yourself outside of the raft. It is recommended for rafters of our
more advanced "wet & wild" trips to have the ability to swim.

Can you accommodate my disability?

all types of disabled parties over the years. We have taken those

What if the weather is bad?
Our trips run rain or shine!
Whitewater rafting is a wet sport and a few clouds or rain won't
make a great difference to the enjoyment of your trip. The weather
is generally sunny and the rain usually short-lived. In the event of
thunder or a bad storm, we may wait it out for a short time and
reserve the right to cancel the trip for safety reasons.

When do I need to arrive?
All trips meet 45 minutes PRIOR to departure time.return to top
What should I wear?
We advise you wear lightweight clothing such as
shorts and a tee shirt or bathing suit. Avoid cotton! Footwear must
tie on or strap securely on your foot. Flip-flops are not
allowed for safety reasons. A hat, sunglasses and sunscreen are
highly recommended. Bring a towel and dry clothing to change in
after your trip. Dry items must be left on land.
return to top
Can I bring extra gear on the boat?
We discourage bringing any extra
gear on board! There is no place to store any "extras"! Please leave
your clothes and towels either in your car or our office so they
stay dry. There is always room for a bottle of water stashed between
the tubing!
If you are going on our Full Day
trip we would recommend bringing some extra cash for a quick
stop on the river!

Can I bring my camera?
We do not advise bringing your camera along on
any whitewater adventure. Remember, you should expect to get wet as
well as anything you bring with you on your trip. There is also the
chance of dropping it overboard! For your convenience, we do sell
disposable, waterproof cameras in our store. You can pick one up
when you check in.

Will anyone be taking pictures of my trip?
There is a professional
photographer on the riverbank who will capture you on film rafting
through the rapids! Photos are available for immediate purchase in
our office at the end of your trip or online at Big Grins after
five days following your trip.
